Motorcycle Rules for the Road
As a motorcycle rider you have to be focused on safety. Safety for riders means more than wearing protective gear and being skilled in maneuvering your motorcycle. Motorcycle safety means being more aware than operators of other types of vehicles on the road. It means being prepared to adjust to and avoid the hazards that are created by the drivers around you to ensure your safety and that of your passenger. Every rider has their own routine and perspective as they head out for a ride. There are some common points of reference and safety tips that many riders ascribe to. Many of them are consistently communicated through riding schools and information published for rider safety. As a healthy reminder, here are a couple of "rules for the road" to help keep you safe:
- Ride your own ride – When riding with other riders everyone is responsible for their own safety. If you're not comfortable with the speed or other conditions of the ride get and stay in your comfort zone. No one else is going to pay your repair or doctor bills if you push to keep pace and something happens.
- Watch out for the other guy – The drivers going the same direction as you may not see you and make sudden, unsafe changes that can cause you to have to react quickly. Oncoming drivers can have difficulty seeing motorcycles too and turn across your path or make other maneuvers that can also cause you to have to react quickly.
Even if you're the safest rider on the road, stuff happens. If you’ve been injured in a motorcycle accident in Birmingham, Alabama or a surrounding area, please contact The Shelnutt Law Firm, P.C. to help get you back where you belong.
