Herniated Cervical Disc, Signs and Symptoms
A herniated or ruptured disc is a common cause of neck, shoulder and arm pain. Symptoms of a cervical herniated disc can be similar to that of carpal tunnel syndrome, or problems with the rotator cuff and gout. They often include:
- Dull or sharp pain in the neck or between the shoulder blades
- Pain that radiates down the arm to the hand or fingers
- Persistent pain in your shoulder or arm
In some patients, a cervical herniated disc can cause spinal cord compression where disc material pushes on the spinal cord. This is a much more serious condition and may require a more aggressive treatment plan. Spinal cord compression symptoms include awkward walking or stumbling, difficulty with fine motor skills in the hands and arms, and tingling down your legs or torso. In order to actually see a picture of the herniated disc or the soft tissue, your doctor must take either a CT scan or an MRI. A serious spinal cord injury will affect every aspect of your life. Many back injuries affect can affect the spinal cord and even require surgery At the Shelnutt Law Firm, our experienced lawyers take every case very seriously.
